A Long Winter

I know, I know, I know. It has been forever since I have posted anything. That will soon change. Let me just say that it has been a long winter. Spring is here and spirits are lifting all around.
I am moving yet again. This time, the address will stick. I am sick and tired of being transient. I found an apartment in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. I will be solo in this one. Once I get things all set up, I should be back on track!
I can't believe that I have been back in NYC for over six months now. It has taken just about that long to get reacclimated to things.
Much to relay and reflect upon, but all is good.

Back In The Slope

Geeze...I have gotten awful with keeping up with posts and writing and correspondence, in general.
I just moved back to the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. I am living on the same street that I lived on prior to leaving NYC, but just a few blocks away. It is good to be back. It was sweet last night when I went to my old and favorite deli/bodega on the corner of Prospect Park West and Windsor Terrace and the female owner recognized me and said that it was good to see me after so much time.
I finally have gotten over my cold and bronchial infection after almost a month of not feeling well. One should not take their health for granted.
Still getting the new place set up, but it is a great apartment and my new roomie, Tim, is a great guy.
More to come......

2006: The New Year

2006 has rolled in. The past two weeks have found me battling with the nastiest cold that I remember having in ages. The stress of the holidays, driving to and from Ohio, visiting family and friends, an office renovation and crappy weather have not helped the situation at all. The cold felt like it was dissipating last week, but my body finally shut down on me just in time for the New Year. I have basically slept and laid around since last Thursday. Cabin fever has gotten the best of me and I made it into work today.
I am looking forward to the New Year. I move into my new apartment in Park Slope in a couple of weeks. I think that this is a good move and step in the right direction for the new year. I need to start eating better and taking better care of myself as the year begins. I realize this and have a doctor appointment on Wednesday to get things started. Anyway, more later and Happy New Year.

Days Like This

It is on days like this that I wonder why I love NYC so much. There is an MTA transit strike. It really has a negative impact on everything. There have been these types of threats in times past, but it always seems to be resolved in the 11th hour. It is not complete chaos, but it is a bit hairy out there. In times like these, it is good in that New Yorkers rally together to get through. I have been here through 9/11 and the big summer blackout in 2003. In each of these times, New Yorkers rally together. Hopefully, this will strike will be over soon.

Outta' Touch for the Holidays

Heya, hiya. Once again, I have not been able to keep up with too many things. I am in a tailspin with all of the holiday commotion, despite the fact that I have minimal spirit about the whole thing. I can't believe that we are half-way through December already. I am looking forward to the New Year. 2005 has been a mixed bag of stuff. Some peaks and valleys along the way. I had a bit of a car mishap last week that resulted in lots of monetary expenses to deal with it. I plan on moving back to the Park Slope section of Brooklyn next month.
Anyway, realistically, I don't know if I will post again anytime soon. SO....Happy Holidays to everyone!!!!

The Ice Storm

This film is one of my all-time favorites. I think that Ang Lee totally hits the mark with his interpretation of Rick Moody's book of the same name. The film is beautiful and haunting. There is a definite mood and feeling that stays with you. I was just telling Matt over the holiday weekend that "The Ice Storm" should be on some channel at some point over the weekend. For me, the film is a dark yet accurate portrayal of the holiday season for many people, despite that this takes place in the 70's. I am not sure what it says about me, but this is sort of a classic holiday movie for me. I caught the last few minutes of it last night as I got home. I hope that I can catch it again, in its entirety, very soon.

Tripping the Light Fantastic

This expression always reminds me of Melle. It was something that she said or made reference to on many occassions. Often times, this had something to do with a big night of going out and partying down. There were many nights like this. It was interesting in that when she and I would go out together, we often would get separated at the end of the night...each of us too drunk to really realize it.
One time, in particular, when Melle made reference to 'Tripping the Light Fantastic,' was when I went out and made it an all-nighter while she chose to stay in (probably the logical thing to do). I was in not-so-good shape the next day and feeling lousy, both physically and mentally. She asked me, "what made you decide to trip the light fantastic last night?" Well, that was a good question. It really wasn't worth it at all and why did I feel the need to overdo things, especially when I looked back upon something and it wasn't all that great.
Tripping the light fantastic is really not a good thing. It usually means that there is some sort excess and debauchery involved with something. Tripping the light fantastic is something that I really don't want to do anymore. It's just not worth it.
I am reminded of all of this as I had a couple of friends in town from Cleveland over the weekend. We went out to dinner and then continued on, partaking in too much indulgence and starting to 'trip the light fantastic.' It was very good to see them and catch up with them. However, it was not necessary to go out and trip the light fantastic.
